One of China's best known contemporary photographers, Wang Qingsong's photographs are confused mixtures of traditional and contemporary Culture. His colorful images are a of dialogue between past and present, bringing out the irony and peculiarities of modern society.
Some of Wang Qingsong's best known works are reinterpretations of famous Chinese masterpieces, he takes famous traditional paintings and introduces a modern take on them which highlights the contradictions that lay in the basis of Chinese culture after its clash with the west. His art is a re-examination of Chinese culture as well as a critique of present trends and society. Wang Qingsong was born in China in 1966 and graduated from the Sichuan central academy of Art, he lives and works in Beijing.
